Various modern speakers use this design and the in-take usually needs a minimal clearance. If that expulsion is 1" and the baffle only leaves 1/2", you are defeating the design of the presenter right out of the box. There is also to know install clearances. In case your car can take a 2-3/4" mounting depth, and the baffle is 4" profound, than the excess woofer just gets squished to 2-3/4", gets torn by your window, or can cause other problems.
